Ready for its close-up

SATURDAY, JULY 8 – The Strand Theatre at 1157 Acushnet Avenue, NB is both historic and infamous. Historic as one the city’s fabled theaters of old that’s still intact with stage, proscenium, balcony and sculpted ceiling – though all are in need of restoration. Infamous in that, renamed the Center, it was a porn cinema for many years. Into the future, it’s putting the past to rest as the Cape Verdean Cultural Center. Today, you’re invited to come and inside and photograph the history, however, during the Strand Theater Photography Workshop hosted by the Cape Verdean Association and Vanishing New England. $25 is the ticket; three hours is your shooting time (11:30am – 2:30pm) and Photographers Bryan Buckley and Brooks Angelini will be on site to answer questions and help with photography.
