We’re thrilled to announce our cowork exchange with Cape Space

When Groundwork first opened in 2014, our tagline was “Work together, grow together.” That manta is baked into our ethos and operations, and it speaks to the motivation behind our recent partnership with Cape Space.

Together with Cape Space President Robbin Orbison, we announced the launch of our cowork exchange program in early October. Under the program, Groundwork members get two days of access per month to either Cape Space location, plus a 20% discount on hourly rentals. Cape Space members enjoy the same benefits at Groundwork.

Cooperation is key in the coworking world

I met Robbin several years ago when she paid a visit to Groundwork. We shared ideas and stayed in touch over the years, and I finally pulled myself out of New Bedford to visit Cape Space earlier in 2020. Robbin has done an impressive job, expanding to two locations in just a short period of time. Both Cape Space locations are beautifully appointed and thoughtfully designed.

The idea for a cowork exchange between our spaces arose quite naturally out of our conversations, and I believe it speaks to the camaraderie and friendship often found among coworking operators. It’s common to find spaces in competitive markets forming alliances, and cooperation generally wins over competition.

A bigger network for our members

One of the well-known benefits of using a coworking space is that it allows you to grow your professional network. Robbin and I both hope that the cowork exchange will allow our members to expand their networks to neighboring communities. Cape Cod and New Bedford play key roles in the emerging Massachusetts blue economy, and I believe the cowork exchange will position us uniquely to service this sector.

On a lighter note, I can certainly imagine Groundwork members enjoying a summer weekday trip to the Cape. Doesn’t a short day of work followed by a trip to the beach sound nice? And Cape Space members might enjoy the occasional urban escape to stroll the cobblestones of historic downtown New Bedford.

Everybody needs a change of scenery

Finally, I cannot emphasize enough what a change of scenery can do for your creativity and productivity. Writers and artists have long understood the importance of residencies and retreats for uninterrupted focus. In these wild times, we have less options for a change of pace. Travel is difficult and camping out at coffee shops is a relic of the past. A sojourn at an unfamiliar coworking space in a neighboring town could be just what you need to break a rut. I’m thrilled we can now offer this opportunity to our members!
