I saw a meme on Facebook the other day that made a lot of sense:
2020 is not the year for getting the things you want. It is the year to be grateful for the things you already have.
Rings true, doesn’t it? In the spirit of spreading the gratitude, I asked some of our members what they are most grateful for this year. This is what they had to say:
The beauty that surrounds us
More than one member cited how lucky we are to live near the ocean here on the South Coast. Shonna Ryan said, “Due to the pandemic I have been more grateful than ever to live near the ocean and to be able to enjoy the beaches in the summer and long walks by the coast year-round!” Midori Evans added, “I am grateful to live so close to the ocean as it is keeping me sane during the pandemic. It’s an amazing treat to be able to go down to walk and watch the sunrise.” Mark Collins, who shared the above photo, “I am grateful that we had another week of summer in November!”
Francesca Martin, who joins us from Cape Cod, also chimed in: “I’m thankful, and grateful, for the extraordinary beauty of the land and landscape that I live in. And every day I am a fortunate recipient of the many many benefits and beauties, of this place I get to call home.”
Family that supports us
Another resounding theme of gratitude was family. Samia Walker shared, “I am immensely thankful for my Husband for graciously creating the space and time for me to be a great Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Friend, Co-Worker, Community Member, and MORE!” Our community manager Caitlin Joseph says, “Grateful for my healthy family and time spent with them enjoying simple things like a hot cup of coffee by the wood stove on a chilly fall morning.”
All. The. Things.
Mindy Wallis shared, “I’m grateful for a job that makes a difference to people’s lives and that I can do remotely. I’m grateful that my sons and their partners are happy, healthy, and still have jobs. I’m grateful for a husband who cooks, cleans, shops, and makes me laugh. I’m grateful that I live in New Bedford in beautiful New England, and for the many great people I’ve met as a member of Groundwork.”
Here here, Mindy!
As for me, I’m grateful for the extra downtime to snuggle on the couch with my little family and a fuzzy blanket, and for the incredible support of Groundwork members during the year. Our members are amazing human beings, and I’m so glad to know each one of them.
Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at Groundwork. And remember, there is a lot to be grateful for this year.
